ASP Selection Criteria – Company History & Peppol Experience

In this article we will discuss the 1st  selection criteria of an ASP and that is who is it and what is its experience.

Company History & Peppol Experience

ASP’s should be reviewed and decided upon like a critical supplier.  It is critical because any failure will impact the invoicing and cash generation process of the company.

The criteria to be used can be:

  • Years in business: A company operating in the I.T sector for the last 30 years might be more solid than a company established the last 2.
  • Listed vs Private: Private companies operating few years might not be having the resource and know-how needed to support clients as well as listed companies that have the resources and are widely accepted by markets.
  • Years offering PEPPOL e-invoicing services: FTA has put a minimum experience threshold for ASP’s of 2 years.  Any experience above that is a bonus, because the ASP will have gained more experience and resolved more technical issues.
  • Countries offering e-invoicing services: The Peppol network spans 40 countries.  Not all of them have mandatory e-invoicing legislation.
E.U. countries have mandatory Peppol invoicing for B2B and B2G transactions.
Singapore has introduced mandatory B2G Peppol e-invoicing since 2019.  B2B will be rolled out in phases from April 2028.
Malaysia has introduced e-invoicing since 2024, but Peppol is not mandatory.  While Peppol allows for seamless cross-border and B2B document exchange, domestic tax clearance in Malaysia is handled by the LHDN (Inland Revenue Board) via the MyInvois system.
  • Number of clients:  A large number of diversified clients is a sign of service stability and market acceptance.
  • Type of clients:  ASPs that service large corporate clients like banks, insurers, large retailers are usually better equipped to support any type of company and provide uninterrupted and professional services.

The above criteria are not exhaustive, but provide a good basis for stating your evaluation of a UAE Accredited Service Provider.
